Why is my water heater not working?

If your water heater is not producing hot water, the issue could be something simple or a sign the unit is failing. If you have a gas water heater, the pilot light may have gone out due to a downdraft through the vent pipe. In other cases, the water heater may be leaking internally or experiencing heating component problems. The age of the heater and the condition of the system will help determine whether it can be repaired or if replacement is the better option.

Why are my pipes making noise?

Noisy pipes can happen for several reasons depending on which pipes are making the sound. Drain pipes often make noise due to thermal expansion and contraction as hot water moves through them. Banging or knocking noises may also be caused by water hammer, which happens when water flow suddenly stops. Loose piping, pressure fluctuations, or appliance solenoid valves can also contribute to the problem.

Should I repair or replace my water heater?

The decision usually depends on the age of the heater and the type of problem occurring. If the heater is leaking, replacement is often the best option. If it is simply not heating water properly, repairs may still be possible depending on the condition of the system. Water heaters generally last around 7–9 years, so older units with repeated issues are often more cost-effective to replace.
